German Champion Cologne with a first win at the EHCCC

29.03.2013 - In the second match of group A at the EHCCC in Hamburg German Champion RW Köln beat Ata Sport from Azerbaijan by 3:1 goals. Franzisca Hauke gave her team an early lead after a strong solo run down the right side, beating the strong Ata-keeper. Cologne had many chances to increase the lead. But the corners didn't work well on the dry pitch. They missed eight corner chances in the match.

So Ata came to a surprising equalizer at the end of first half, when Yuliya Muradi converted a short corner rebound. But Cologne answered with two early goals in the second half. Rebecca Grote beat keeper Shahbazova with a solid shot in the upper left corner. One minute later Anna Geiter was able to score from short range.

Cologne then dominated the match. Their defense cleared every attempt of Ata Sport early in front of the circle. And they had counter attacks to score the fourth goal. But they missed the decisive goal, so Ata came to two late chances to come back. But the Azerbaijan team wasn't able to convert a penalty corner late in the fourth quarter.
