Last-second-win for title holder MHC Laren

April, 1st, EHCCC in Hamburg: UHC Hamburg – MHC Laren 3:4 (2:1)

01.04.2013 - In a dramatic second semifinal of the EHCCC in Hamburg host UHC Hamburg lost by a last-second-goal 3-4 against title holder MHC Laren from the Netherlands.

The Hamburg side was the better one in the first half, when they converted two corner variations brilliantly. At the end of quarter one Marie Mävers blocked the first corner on the right post in the goal. And it was Kristina Hillmann in the second quarter, who deflected a second corner shot right before the keeper high in the net. But Laren stroke back only a few minutes before halftime, with a corner rebound goal by Lisanne de Lange.

Laren put pressure on the UHC defense in quarter three, but the home team showed a solid defensive performance. But another penalty corner brought the equalizer, when Noortje Schortinghus deflected a shot from Kim Lammers over the goal line. And when Macey de Ruiter converted another corner rebound in minute 54, Laren seemed to be on the winning streak.

But Hillmann scored only three minutes before the final hooter, when she dribbled across the left side of the Dutch circle and scooped over Larens keeper Joyce Sombroek in the goal. But Laren earned two late corners for the winning goal. And it was Kim Lammers, who made it with a crashing flat shot.

So the final of the EHCCC at the Whitsun weekend in May will be HC Den Bosch against MHC Laren.
