Belgium wins the first three points of the tournament

20.08.2011 - In the last Sunday game of the "GANT EuroHockey Championships," the Belgians indicated from the beginning on that they count for nothing other than three points. Belgian pressing set the Irish women constantly under pressure and caused good opportunities. Logical result was the early 1-0 by captain Charlotte de Vos who scored from the left half position to the near post.

Despite the onset of 'British the rain”, the Belgians controlled the game and had no problems to handle the Irish offense. So when Charlotte de Vos completed a great solo performance by backhand shot to make it 2-0 in the 33th minute, already a kind of preliminary decision had been made. The Irish never gave up, but they remained too harmless in the opposing quarter to be able to cause serious danger for Belgium defense.

How it works was shown by Liselotte van Lindt ten minutes after the break, when she dribbled around three Iris defenders and converted a great shot under the crossbar. Despite of several chances on both sides that result endured until the final whistle. Belgium now has the chance to reach the semifinal if it beats Germany in the final group match on Tuesday.
