World champion Germany won his first match of the four Nations tournament in front of 4.000 spectators against record Olympic champion India 4:1(1:1). Matchwinner of this game in the Warsteiner HockeyPark was Christopher Zeller, Germany´s player of the year 2005. He managed to score three goals to their deserved victory. Germany takes over the head of the table after the first day just in front of the Spaniards who are tied.

Just before kick-off a minute´s silence for the honoury president of the European hockey federation, the French Alain Danet, was held. The Indians had the better start. In the third minute Moritz Fürste had to save the ball on the line for Ulrich Bubolz. It was also Fürste who helped the German team to their first big chance in the ninth minute. Björn Emmerling gained the first penalty corner for the German team. But Christopher Zeller failed to bring the ball past the Indian defence. It became a quick game but with a lot of errors in front of the Indian circle. In the 21nd minute Matthias Witthaus had the first great chance for Germany. But the Indian goalkeeper Chetri managed to make a great save and the German team gained another penalty corner. The following flick from Jan-Marco Montag was held by Bharat Chetri and Zeller hit the rebound from a short distance over the goal. Nicolas Emmerling had the next chance. He passed the ball from the backline to Christopher Zeller, who was standing alone in front of the goal. He locked the ball directly into the goal: 1:0 (23.) With their second dangerous scene inside the German circle the Indian team managed to equalise (29.) after two mistakes in the German defence. The scorer was Tushar Khandkar, one of the three newcomers in the team of the new Indian coach Vasudevan Bhaskaran.

The second half began furious for the Germans. Moritz Fürste gained the third penalty corner and Christopher Zeller flicked the ball directly into the right angle: 2:1 (37). In the 44th minute a free hit of Björn Emmerling to Sebastian Draguhn was blocked directly into the net: 3:1. The German team gained two consecutive penalty corners but were not able to convert them. Raspal Singh managed a backhand stroke in the German circle but hit the ball over the goal. In the 54th minute Christopher Zeller missed the goal by centimetres but just before the hooter sounded he could consolidate the German lead with his hattrick to the final result.
