In April this year Vasudevan Bhaskaran became head coach of the Indian national team for the third time. The very experienced coach was already with the team in 1995 winning the 6th Azlan Shah Cup and was called again shortly before the 1998 World Cup in Utrecht. After the 2000 Olympic Games of Sydney when he missed the semi finals ending up only 7th he was replaced.

Bhaskaran was captain of the 1980 olympic team in Moskau when India had won the gold medal for the last time.
